Note from the artist:
... back in 1970 sometimes the paintings got a little bit lost and I would take the canvases off the stretchers, and the drawing of one of these is the drawing you [have].
Note re the work
It has a visual affinity with the three works by Victor Majzner painted at about the same time, yet quite different in source and, to a degree, intent.
Majzner's were inspired by socially cherished, finely crafted, and hence valuable fabrics carefully displayed in museums; Stuart's eye was arrested by the way the rejected canvases he had tossed into a corner took on a form that seemed to have a life of its own - and hence worthy of attention.
Further works by the Artist
Since its establishment in 1984, the Charles Nodrum Gallery’s exhibition program embraces a diversity of media and styles - from painting, sculpture & works on paper to graphics and photography; from figurative, geometric, gestural, surrealist & social comment to installation & conceptually based work.
