acrylic on cotton duck, in original aluminium frame

106.50 x 244.00

signed on reverse

Provenance: The Artist

Exhibited: The Light of Open Spaces: A Survey of Virginia Coventry's Work, Drill Hall Gallery, Canberra, 30 September - 7 November, 2004

Literature & references: Terence Maloon, The Light of Open Spaces: A Survey of Virginia Coventry's Work, Drill Hall Gallery, 2004, Exhibition Catalogue: “Unfortunately Virginia Coventry missed the chance to take part in The Field herself. She was overseas between September 1967 and September 1968, hence was not present while the exhibition was being organized. However, there can be no doubt that she was fully eligble for inclusion, and it would doubtless have made a huge difference to her career subsequently. However, with the hindsight of thirty six years, the paintings she procuded close to the time of The Field – Mirage 1968 and Solid Blue Silence 1969 – could be considered among the finest paintings in this idiom ever produced in Australia.” p 11

Note: Mirage 1968 is in the Collection of the National Gallery of Australia.
