Michael Shannon: Australian Romantic Realist, Ballarat Art Gallery, Feb 29 - Apr 09, 2012
Carl Andrew, Michael Shannon, Art and Australia, Vol 12. No. 4, 1975, p 350:
"Shannon painted several groups of Queensland architectural subjects during the mid-1960s - trellised houses on stilts with iron roofs, cane fields, elongated palm-trees and a few figures. The earliest of these are formal compositions with horizontal bands of vegetation, walls and sky, with bold triangles of roofing iron as seen in 'The Cane Farmer's House' and 'Townsville Evening'.";
