Ian Rose, curator of 'George Gittoes Artworks 1969 to '72, Yellow House Sydney' writes of the suite: "While many of the etchings are taken from drawings and experiences made while George was in the US during 1968-9, some are also from his Yellow House experiences... It was after the death of his close friend (Marie Brebauer) and collaborator at the Yellow House, that he made these etchings."  He quotes the artist's words on 'The Doorway': “Some doorways should remain closed. The nun with her hand to her throat, as if in the process of self strangulation was an oil painting from early ’71 and exhibited at the Yellow House. It was later appropriated by Marie Brebauer into one of her etchings. Marie, a Ukranian-American artist came to the yellow House from San Francisco in ’71. She committed suicide 13-8-71 and all the Hotel Kennedy etchings were made after her death reflect my grief”
