Provenance: The Artist’s Estate, till 2014

Exhibited: Abstraction 17: A Field of Interest, c. 1968 (2018) David Dallwitz - Paintings, Central Street Gallery, Sydney, 20 August - 6 September, 1969, cat no 5 (the same exhibition from which the Art Gallery of South Australia acquired Blue Flash which remains on fairly regular display); Abstraction 14, Charles Nodrum Gallery, 1 - 24 October, 2015, no. 3

Literature & references: Daniel Thomas, Sunday Telegraph (Sydney), August 24, 1969, p 27 - review of the above exhibition.

Note: David Dallwitz played a notable role in South Australian cultural circles as both an artist and a jazz musician. He was an influential teacher at the SA School of Art and an active participant of the Contemporary Art Society of SA. He held a Survey exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia in 1994, predominantly of the landscape paintings for which he is best known. He was awarded an OA for services to music in 1986. Dynamo is one of a limited number of hard edge geometric paintings he produced in the 1960s alongside fellow artists such as John Dallwitz (his son) and Sydney Ball, whose exhibition of Canto paintings had a singular impact on the Adelaide art scene.
