The Holden FX (1948-52) was followed by the modified FJ (1953-7); the first were assembed in Woodville, SA, and subsequently in all State capitals. Given that Melbourne was Watson's home town it is fairly safe to conclude that this work was painted in the Fisherman's Bend plant shortly before the FE, with its squarer lines, replaced the distinctively rouner forms of its predecessors.
